About Us - ASMSI History

1991 - 1998

In 1991, the pioneering graduates of SMS Manila (at that time, they were from batch 1990 and batch 1991), decided to form associations that will serve the graduates.

One association catered to boys - then called Sisters of Mary Alumni Association (SMAA), and the other catered to girls which was then called Sisters of Mary Alumnae Association. Both associations were able to lay the foundation which has become the precedent for the succeeding group of organizers.

In early part of 1996, another group with enthusiasm from the Batch 1990 and Batch 1991 led by Mr. Joseph Justiniani (batch 1991), continued the endeavor.

On August 19, 1996 in the occasion of 11th Foundation Day, graduates were called upon to gather and to elect new set of officers for SMAA (boys). It was then that Mr. Albin Fernandez (batch 1991), was elected as President while Mr. Georgie Moral as Vice-President for internal affairs, and Mr. Ronaldo De Guia as Vice-President for external affairs. The two Vice-Presidents were also from batch 1991. Immediately after the election, a constitution and by-laws patterned after the previous were drafted and approved by the concerned parties.

During this period, numerous projects were successfully carried out in partnership with the SMAA (girls) which was then led by Ms. Seanell del Rosario. One of the successful projects was the alumni-sponsored Mass Wedding. More than five couples received the Sacrament of Matrimony and the occasion was held at Sta. Mesa Manila. From then on, more graduates became accustomed to actively participate.
